The idea that losing your bees each year, and replacing them with packages from the South, is a system that’s obviously broken, but most have accepted as the norm. Sustainable beekeeping uses bees from feral colonies to build bee yards with bees that are acclimated to your area, and when put in boxes more similar to their natural hive choices, give you bees that not only thrive, but become the stock for building healthy bee colonies.
